Have been a number of times recently with family and friends, for drinks and for food. We love it there, great atmosphere, good food and drink and very... read more welcoming. Especially to dogs!
Couldn't recommend more highly, definitely worth a visit.
SO disappointed. We were staying in the New Forest and struggled to find a local restaurant which had late notice availability or that was still open on a Sunday after... read more 6pm. We found this pub’s website and it looked lovely, saying it was known for it’s traditional home cooked food- brilliant! It also had a range of vegetarian options which I prefer to eat. The website stated that we needed to book so we phoned only to speak to an unhelpful person seeming like we had inconvenienced him to have to answer the phone. When we arrived the place was empty except two tables but with this being only our second time out in the pandemic and a Sunday evening we thought this was why. We waited for someone to appear to tell us where the table was but was told we could sit anywhere. We were given a couple of bits of scruffy printed paper as the menu. I honestly thought we must have been in the wrong place as this was nothing like the website makes out. We asked if there was a different menu as there were only a handful of dishes with the veggie burger as the only vegetarian option, we were told there were more dishes on the other side of the paper - jacket potatoes and sandwiches, not really a Sunday meal out! We wanted to leave but already knew there wasn’t really anywhere else we could go to eat so we ordered mozzarella sticks with sweet chilli dip to start and ‘bistro’ fish and ‘gourmet’ chips for main. We paid £6.50 for 4 frozen mozzarella sticks deep fried in old oil, when we asked where the dip was we were given some sweet chilli sachets. There was nothing gourmet or bistro about the fish and chips and we left half of it without them even asking if it was okay. We were then asked if we wanted desserts and of course I didn’t but I was intrigued so I asked for the menu. Oh they didn’t have one because he came back a few minutes later and reeled a couple off. I asked if any of them were made on site, he said no. So much for the traditional home cooked food!
Avoid unless you’re a local and know what to expect or if like paying premium prices for frozen food.
